Well, hello there!

It has been two years since I came here! Yes, I fell off the keto wagon. I had some hard times and got a little sick too. Started my doctorate. I even committed the greatest of all evils, I tried diet pills. I am slowly getting back into keto now. I am exercising daily and eating better. Jumping into things head first is a big problem for me! Going slower and hopefully doing it right this time. I will try to check in once a week. Toodles!

Back on the keto train

Last week i was pretty bad at this keto thing. I was making the right foods but snacking was killing me. Too many strawberries and cherries. And too many sneaky carbs getting in. I have been doing so much better this week. I've lost half an inch from last week to this week. Maybe a whole inch by sunday. 3 pounds this week already. I think one of the things that is helping is tea. I've been keeping a thermos of tea around. So when i start to get snacky i just drink tea. I know some people swear by bulletproof coffee, but i'm not much of a coffee drinker anymore. And i'm poor. Maybe when my new contract starts and my paychecks are regular i'll try it.

 I managed to avoid a heavy amount of carbs yesterday. It was my parent's 30th anniversary and they went out. And brought back Indian food. with roti. And rice. And i ate only their chicken because chicken is awesome. I wish they had gotten the lamb though, i'm in need of some variety. But hey, i've also got some other good news. My double chin is receding quickly. It's almost non-existent. Soon i will have just one chubby chin. Hopefully i will eventually have an actual jawline. I just hope it isn't Star Jones-ish. I've never been a really skinny person so i don't know how it will turn out. As a kid my face was chubby and as a teen my face was chubby...And i've been informed i look pretty young still. By a teenager. A teen that thinks my friend is like 40 (she's 26) thought i was like, 19. So yay on that, but will that mean my face will always be chubby unless i go full ana? Ugh.

I really want to lose weight faster. And i have been exercising for at least an hour everyday. I don't exercise longer than that partially because i have no energy to and partially because i'm doing it alone. My sister in law was exercising with me but stopped. I didn't mind so much that she quit keto but she quit exercising too. I get the feeling she won't exercise really until something drastic happens like i lose a full 50 pounds or my brother starts to look at other women. She's really good at procrastinating and clinging to the familiar. Familiar foods, familiar routine, etc. And i wouldn't care except i need a workout partner! Don't make me go to craigslist to find one, please.

The worst part of dieting is the cravings. I'm full right now but i'm craving flavour. Not necessarily carbs but i want something tangy right now. Something that is different from my usual meat/salad combo. I guess i'm just bored with my diet. All of my keto friendly deserts are sweet, not tangy. And i don't even have cream cheese. I guess i'll try to do something interesting with sour cream. Catch you later!

Cheating

So i cheated a bit over the weekend. I had rice. Fried rice. Guyanese fried rice and it was so good! I regret it only a little. Right now i feel uncomfortably full, i forgot how filled up rice makes you feel. It had a lot of veggies that you're not supposed to eat on keto in it so that doesn't help. I also made some actual keto friendly food over the weekend. I made that keto cheesecake I was talking about before. It doesn't taste perfect because i forgot to buy cream but it does taste good. Especially the crust. The chocolatey-ness is awesome!  I made it with flax meal rather than almond flour and that raised the fiber count in the cake. The fiber was good for me but it seems to have hit my mother the wrong way. She went to the bathroom twice. As i said, i forgot to buy cream and didn't even have milk so to thicken the actual cheesecake part I added an extra egg. So it tastes sort of like an egg cream. I also used Xylitol rather than Swerve because i don't have Swerve. I know some people would have used Stevia and i do have that but i hate that bitterish undertone/aftertaste that Stevia has. Xylitol worked perfectly for me. Not bad at all. But i'm planning on making it the right way next time. I think i'll do half flax and half almond meal next time too.

So yeah...

It's been awhile again. I'm just no good at posting often. But i've been doing better on this keto thing. My sister in law dropped it quickly but i've convinced another person to try keto. She's been doing it for a week and broke pretty quickly. The difference is that she stopped and got back on the keto train! Good job S! I'm looking around for tons of keto recipes. I went through another month of keto, broke on my period and cheated. Juice and roti killed me. But it was sooo good. I gained almost two pounds. But i lost it again and am officially down 26.6 pounds on this keto thing. I'm exercising again so i hope to make it thrity pounds by the end of the month. It can happen if i don't cheat. So wish me luck, i need to get this weight problem under control!

I've found a couple of recipes i want to try. One is peanut butter fudge which looks awesome and only has 1 carb per piece. It has 75 calories per piece so don't go nuts if you try that recipe! I also want to try the low carb pancakes on that page. Note that that is what a proper blog looks like. I'll try and be more, i don't know, regular.

So i mentioned that time of the month and any women who are considering keto should listen up here. Your period on keto SUCKS. Please note that I am not on birth control or any other type of hormones. So this is just how keto affects me with no interference. Some people get no period at all. Some get it the second they drop their birth control if they are ketoing.. Some people get a super light, no fuss period. For me, my periods are heavy, painful, and sort of sucky. I think my body is getting used to keto though. My first keto  period was very late and ten days long. TEN DAYS. This one came when it was supposed to and was only 7 days. Since i normally go 5-7 days that was fine. It was just the cramps and the heavy bleeding that sucked. So if you are going to do keto, be prepared!

Cheater

So i cheated on Monday. I went to Applebees with my mother and had pasta. And dessert. Ice cream. Then i felt sick the rest of the week. Hopped back on the keto train right away but still, i don't want to cheat that heavily again. It tasted worth it at first but didn't feel taht way after i was done. So i've been easing back into strict keto. The last couple of days have been a very meaty time. I think that the net time i "cheat" it will be with fruits that i'm missing instead. Like mango. And pears. And peaches. I miss them all so much.

I made Parmesan crusted chicken in the oven tonight (no breading, just seasoning). It tasted so good i can't upload a picture. Sorry. I'll make it again and take a pic before i eat any.

So it's been a couple of weeks

And this keto thing is going ok. I've stuck with it mostly. Since starting i've lost 7.8 pounds, hopefully ten by the end of this week. My meals have sort of gotten boring since i'm pretty lazy. But i baked my first keto friendly dessert. Peanut butter chocolate cookies. I used almond flour instead of wheat flower and semi-bitter chocolate. There are some carbs (like 5 per serving which is two cookies) but it's better than no sweets at all. I have to make sure to use an egg next time too, almond flour/meal crumbles pretty easily and doesn't hold as well as wheat flour. But it tastes great! My father ate 3 right away. Forgot that anything with peanut butter will draw him like a moth to a flame.



I have plans to make a keto friendly cheesecake. Just have to remember to get cream cheese. And find a better tasting sugar substitute. I've learned that i HATE the taste of Stevia. I honestly can't stand it. So none of that.I've heard that Erythritol isn't that bad though. I just have to find some. Hopefully nt at the health food store, they over charge for everything. I have started makingsure that i get enough fats now. Sour cream is my new best friend.

I didn't exercise much the last few days but still lost 2.2 pounds (out of the number above) so that's proof keto works. It's been so rainy i really haven't been able to go out. But i have an exercise bike so i guess the real reason is that i'm lazy. Tomorrow i'll ride for at least 1/2 and hour, promise!

The last few days

Ok so i haven't posted anything for a bit. But there is a good reason for that. The choir i sing with has been recording an EP and so i've been really busy. It takes forever to record just one song and the director gets these annoying/amazing flashes of inspiration in the middle of a session. Then we have to change a track, deviate from what we already learned...It's pretty tiring. I forgot how tiring it is to record something. So the first recording was Friday, We sang at a church on Saturday, and recorded again on Sunday. We record Friday again and hopefully we will be able to get that last song done. We average 3.5 hours for a song which isn't bad with so many people and so many changes. But it could definitely go faster i think. We spent 7 hours in the studio yesterday and i was so hungry when i got out! But i stuck to my diet. 2 morningstar patties and a chicken drumstick when i got home at 12:45am because that's what i had that was cooked. I was ready to eat a tub of butter to feel less hungry.

I ate light today (not that the day is done). Two morningstar  patties for breakfast. Lunch was a salad and two chicken drumsticks.


Dinner was a Chobani strawberry banana yogurt cup. It has 19 carbs but it didn't matter. I'm still below 40 carbs, let alone 50. Did you know baby carrots have carbs in them? Annoyed me so much on Saturday when all i wanted was a snack. If i ate them i would have gone over. So now carrots for me that day.

My sister in law is not getting this keto thing. Mostly because she likes to do the minimum possible in things like this. She hasn't eaten any grains but is still hitting the candy. She went to the park to walk today in order to :compensate". She doesn't get that simply eating less carbs than she did before will not get her into ketosis. I think she's going to crack in another day or two. Hopefully not.
